Trader Joes Looking for Space in Texas

From the Statesman:

Specialty grocer Trader Joe’s Co. is looking at moving into Texas, company officials said Tuesday. In a statement, spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki said that Dallas “and frankly the entire state of Texas, is a place we’ve wanted to be for a long time.”

“We’re excited about bringing Trader Joe’s to the wonderful cities, towns, and neighborhoods in and around Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, and beyond. We are actively looking for sites and we’re anxious to identify some great locations and begin hiring Crew Members.”  Mochizuki declined to comment beyond the statement.

While the statement didn’t specifically mention Austin, it left open the possibility that the California-based chain could expand here.  Austin, of course, is the headquarters of Whole Foods, which competes with Trader Joe’s elsewhere across the country. Trader Joe’s has more than 350 stores located in 29 states, but does not have a Texas presence.
