Show your support for the proposed additional access road from Vandegrift High School, Four Points Middle School and Monroe Stadium to River Place Boulevard.

On Wednesday, May 15 at 10:00 am, Leander ISD staff will present the proposed plan for the access route to the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan Coordinating Committee at Austin City Hall, Council Chambers. It is imperative that our community makes a strong showing. Decisions made at this meeting will determine whether this cause can proceed to the next level or be halted. Citizens’ comments will be accepted at this hearing.

New Urgent Care at River Place – Grand Opening Event

I think it’s awesome that we now have so many options for great medical care so close to Steiner Ranch. In addition to the new hospital in Lakeway, Lakeway Regional Medical Center, the new Austin Diagnostic Clinic going in at Quinlan Crossings, we now have VIK Medical, a locally owned Urgent Care and Family Practice right up the road at the entrance to River Place. VIK Medical has invited us all to their Grand Opening Celebration, Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 4:30-8pm. Family fun with a bounce house, sno-cones and photo booth. Featuring : CODE BLUE Band at 6pm and appetizers by Zack’s Bistro. The Four Points Chamber of Commerce will be doing a ribbon cutting and there will be drawings for gift certificates to The Lash Lounge, Rise and Shine Bakery, and Beleza MedSpa. VIK Medical Announces Opening of Third Location in Four Points Area

Austin,TX- Locally owned VIK Medical Urgent Care and Family Practice has opened a full service clinic in the Four Points area of Austin. The clinic offers the same high quality providers and extended hours as the locations in Westlake and Lakeway. In addition, patients will soon have access to CT and MRI (advanced imaging) as well as a variety of specialists within the same building for ease and convenience.

“Our two current locations were bursting at the seams, “ said practice administrator Kyle Froelich. “ A new location is a natural progression. Many of our current patients live in the River Place or Steiner Ranch area. This will be a much more convenient location for them. ”

The Tuscan style building has a different look to it than the clinics in Westlake and Lakeway, but those who have been patients at VIK Medical in the past will recognize the zen-like atmosphere of the lobby with its signature salt-water aquarium, and complimentary coffee/tea .

Folks, take a minute to pray for Boston today. If you are looking for ways to support those affected by this terrible tragedy, please be careful of what charity you lend your support. Lots of scams are already popping up from this (which is also quite sick), so it might be best to simply keep watching the Facebook page for the Boston Marathon to see what they suggest.

We are so very proud of the folks who have proven that heros really do exist in the world, and humanity is not a pipe dream.

Steiner Ranch Referrals Visitors Day 4/23

Steiner Ranch Referrals, the ORIGINAL Four Points networking group, is having a visitor’s day on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at The Oasis from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

BNI is a business and professional networking organization whose primary purposes it to exchange qualified business referrals. The organization presently has over 6,300 chapters throughout every populated continent in the world. Last year, members of BNI passed over 7.1 million referrals which generated almost 3.3 billion (US) worth of business for each other. What makes BNI unique is that it allows only one person per profession to join a chapter. Thus, once you’ve joined, none of your competitors can participate.

The View at Steiner Ranch

With Taylor Morrison almost done building here in Steiner Ranch, and resale inventory at an all time low, buyers don’t have a lot of options. You may remember me posting a while back about The View at Steiner Ranch, 20 new units that were to be built on Steiner Ranch Blvd. I was the listing agent on that project for over a year. We had so many interested parties but the builder just couldn’t get his financing in place to begin permitting, roads, etc… so we could actually sell the units. He sold the project a few months back to Gehan Homes and I’m sure you’ve noticed that construction has begun.

I FINALLY have updated information on the project. It’s essentially the same concept as before – “lock and leave” villa type homes with incredible views of the Preserve and Lake Travis, all with the great location on Steiner Ranch Blvd. – easy in and out of the neighborhood. Prices will range from the high$ 300′s to around $450, sizes ranging from 2020 SF to 3600 SF with 2 one story plans and 5 two story plans. They are a GREAT alternative to the Fairways for those who want views, a better location, and don’t want to live under the UT Club power lines.

Randalls Gas Station Coming to Steiner Ranch

Just learned today that we’re getting a Randalls gas station soon. They’re already clearing the space over behind Chase bank. You can actually save a lot on gas with their points system. Here’s a trick I use – You always get 2 points for every dollar spent on gift cards. Every once in a while, they have a special where you get 4 points for every dollar spent on a Randalls card. During those times, I buy myself a Randalls card, then shop with it. I end up getting 5x the points – 4x when I buy the gift card, then you get the points when you buy the items with the card. You can find more information here, but here is some of the basic info:

How are Reward Points earned?

Every $1 spent on groceries = 1 point
Every $1 spent on qualifying gift cards = 2 points
Every $1 spent on pharmacy items = 1 point

How do Reward Points save money at the pump?

Every 100 points gets you a 10¢ per gallon Reward for a single fill-up at a Randalls gas station. You can use your points in increments of 100 and use up to 2000 points for a single fill-up:

100 points = 10¢ per gallon Reward
200 points = 20¢ per gallon Reward
500 points = 50¢ per gallon Reward
2000 points = $2 per gallon Reward

Menchies is Open

Menchies is Open – and with that I’d like to say that I hope we all don’t forget about Cups and Cones. I know they are different concepts, but they were our original ice cream shop. As much as I LOVE the black forrest ice blended at the Coffee Bean, I cringe when I see the line of cars there every morning. Rick and Christine (the owners of Cups and Cones) have done SO MUCH for our community in addition to providing us with such a wonderful neighborhood hang-out for our kids of all ages. I wish all the Steiner businesses well, but I’d just hate to see another business go the way of Pigtails and Crewcuts. Think I’ll take the kids in for some good old fashioned Blue Bell tonight to show my support!

Summer Child Care – CCOA Camp: Amazing Race

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know that my kids went to the Children’s Center of Austin until they started Kindergarten at Laura Bush this year, and I LOVE the school! Looking around for what to do with them over the summer, I was SO EXCITED to find out what an awesome program they’re offering. I was looking for something that didn’t have me driving all over town, but also didn’t have them just sitting around all day in a “day care” like setting. How lucky we are in Steiner to have such an amazing program within the neighborhood!!

This year, the theme is “Amazing Race – Around the World in 1o Weeks.” It’s open to children ages 5-12 and it kicks off June 10, ending Friday, August 16. There’s a pool on site, so they offer daily swim time as well as several field trips a week*, arts and crafts, science projects, cooking projects, and an athletic program. Everything is tied into the theme of the week so it’s educational as well. For example, India week features a Henna artist, Main Event trip, Visit to the Art Garage, Bollywood Dancers, etc … and France week takes kids to the Umlauf sculpture garden, the French Legislation Museum, the Austin Nature and Science center, crepe making with Adventure Cooks, and construction of an Eiffel Tower!

My other favorite things:

EVERYTHING is included – lunch, snacks, field trips, etc…

TADPOLES – an app you can download (or you can opt to receive emails) to receive pictures and videos of your children throughout the day

VACATION – If you go on vacation, tuition is refundable with 2 weeks notice.

INTERACTION – A lot of my kids’ friends from Steiner go to the Jester facility. They go on field trips with the other Children’s Center campuses so they will see their friends from the other schools.

*All field trips are tentative until schedule is finalized.
