First Second

Last night the wife and the kiddo went downtown and we stopped by the food trailer area on South Congress and saw the original Hey Cupcake and Hudson’s on the Bend’s version of trailer food The Mighty Cone. Also during the week for lunch went to the new (to me) Chuy’s on William Cannon and Mopac. Both places had good traffic and talking to the staff said that they are doing good business and they are always packed at peak times.

So Why WHY WHY can’t someone bring more stuff like this to Four Points instead of building more empty commercial (witness the empty building behind Wells Fargo and the other empty building near the HEB gas station and the used car dealership).

We can easily sustain any one of these places, I bet the Hey Cupcake business is thriving in its location. There is no competition. There is a huge demand for stuff like that out here and no one to fill it. If they built a Chuy’s or Trudy’s out here, they would mint money. I just don’t get it. Does anyone else?

  • Michelle

I don’t think a Chuy’s or Trudy’s would mint money here. Rudy’s down 620 is busy, but it’s never as busy as more centrally-located Rudy’s. The Chuy’s on N Research has a wait time for weekday lunch. Could you imagine that happening out here?

Round Rock attracts national attention due to its population growth (only New Orleans is growing faster). I live in Steiner because it’s quiet and out of the way. We don’t have the traffic to support as much commercial activity as other areas, and I’m okay with that.

I am a Chuy’s fan too, and I’ve always wondered why they cant open a branch somewhere on 620 ?? near the Four points area.

Flores, which is OK at best, stays packed. Los Pinos, which is good, does a good business. A name-brand Mexican joint would do well in the area. Anyone for a Maudie’s?

  • anon

Maudie’s in openning up a restaurant in the Hill Country Galleria so I doubt there will another one nearer to Steiner anytime soon.

Oh yeah — I forgot about that. I guess that will be a little closer than the one in Davenport

  • ANON

I think a place like Los Pinos would kill it in Steiner. No Tex – Mex, just good Mexican would be awesome.

Los Pinos would be great here. Went there last night, as it happens

I would like to see a decent sports bar put in…I’m not very fond of Lakeside Grill’s prices. We would do well with a wing place like Pluckers or Fowlers in Steiner. A place that also serves great hamburgers.

Fion always has the games on, though it’s not a sports bar.

Fion advertises Monday Night Football on their big screens with a $6 burger, beer and chips special.

That’s true…I would just like a more sporty atmosphere…I personally am not a drinker, so Fion doesn’t interest me much but I have seen Lakeside and Fion offering a lot of big screen viewings lately.

Halina’s European Day Spa (in the apts) closed last night due to landlord/tenant issues.

That’s the same reason Steven Todd’s closed when it was there
