Cho Sushi Review

Cho Sushi opened up and me, the wife, and the 9.5 month old decided to check it out. We went during the happy hour and had the excellent garlic edamame. It was some of the best edamame that we have ever had. We then went to the sushi and had a couple of the happy hour rolls which were good and had an excellent Texas Roll as well. We are going to try the Steiner Ranch and Bentley Roll next time. Has anyone tried the entrees? Post in the comments what you think of the place.

Finally decent asian food close by. After disgusting meals from Thai Harmony and Hunan Riverplace, I loved the teryaki platter from Cho. It’s pricey, but tasty good. At least the miso comes included with the entree. My husband also enjoyed it with seaweed salad. Wish they wouldn’t charge so much to sub brown rice for the white.

I think it was okay, but nothing special. Fine for a quick last-minute craving, but I much prefer Midori for dinner.

I understand any restaurant in Steiner will have a lot of kids, but I think the hard surfaces contribute to the noise level, and a little softening might help there.

Also, I did not expect to see someone’s kid hoist a plate to mouth level and shovel the food in… I don’t think anyone wants to see that, and something should have been said at the table.

I thought it was excellent…especially for Steiner’s reputation about food. The prices were great, service was excellent and the food was very good. Will be a continued customer.
FYI I’m so tired of hearing people talk about child friendly restaurants…I don’t know about anyone else, but it’s nice to have a place to go without kids since SR Steakhouse has now become a local hang out for the toddlers at the bar with their moms as they try to pick up dates. And I don’t think someone else’s kid’s table manners has anything to do with the quality of this restaurant. Let’s just pick it apart…how about that. If you want child friendly, eat at home.

I’ve raised 2 children and 2 stepchildren (well, still raising). The issue is not the restaurant, and whether a restaurant is “kid friendly.” The issue is whether the parents have taught the child how to behave in a restaurant. I am all for taking kids to a restaurant (something nicer than McD’s) and letting them learn about nicer dining. It’s not that hard, people! And, yes, if the child is unruly, it’s time to pick up little Johnny and go.
That said, poor eating habits, though annoying, are not a basis to gripe about a kid, at least so long as the parent takes care of the issue.
And, Heather, if you don’t want to deal with kids at any level, you can stay at home as well.

I have 2 kids and agree about wanting places that are relatively kid-free. If my husband and I are going out, it’s to get AWAY from kids. Lakeside Pizza is a great place to take the kids. The Steakhouse (and any restaurant that charges that much) should be for adults. Luckily, the husband and I have found a bit of a haven in Fion.
The Kid Factor

As a mom who migrated from Los Angeles, sushi restaurants are NOT exempt from children despite preconceived notions. Cho has a kids menu, which means they like to cater to ALL types of patrons not just to the childless. I use to discriminate and say “keep your kids at home,” but I come to realize that if we as parents to don’t expose them to different foods, environments, and people how are they going to learn to be understanding an fully functional adults?

That said, yes…after 7PM I would not take my child to a sushi restaurant. That’s just plain cruel to my child and the others patrons.

Seriously, kids under the age of 7 should be winding down and getting ready for bed at 7 – not out at ANY restaurant.

Fion — I strongly agree — great place to go without kids, though I have seen severeal in the Bistro and never observed any issues. You should not expect the Steakhouse (other than the bar area) or Cho to be kid-free, however. You should expect not to be bothered by kids 9i.e. parents need to control them). Just for the record — I don’t have any under the age of 11, so I’m not trying to defend myself.

I have 4 children so the issue is not about not wanting to deal with kids…I would have never commented if I didn’t have children. This review is about Cho Sushi, not parents/children that eat there…that is my point.

To anon: says who? Different kids have different schedule, just like all families are different and their schedules won’t correlate to yours. So who are you to tell and decide where the kids should or should NOT bet after 7 pm? You do realize some kids still take LONG naps during the day so at 7 pm and later they are ready to go and eat and it does NOT mean they will misbehave!!!

I recently moved to Steiner from another state. I have been unpleasantly surprised at the behavior of kids around here. For instance, just yesterday at the Towne Square park there was a group of about 7 kids throwing handfuls of rocks towards my son and I as we walked by, all the while 5 of the moms stood and watched, saying NOTHING to their kids. *I* had to ask them to stop throwing them!!!

We love Cho Sushi! We go here all the time – their rolls are excellent. The best thing about them is that they will let you do to-go orders, which means if you don’t like eat sushi with kids around, you can just take it home and eat there. (Unfortunately happy hour prices don’t apply for take-out orders.)

We’ve tried just about every roll on the menu and like all of them. Our favorite is the Sunshine Roll.

Went to Cho twice. Liked it twice. You can get raw food or cooked in your sushi. They have lots to choose from. We had great service both times. Yeah that they decided to move in here.

We have eaten the sushi there several times during happy hour. It was good sushi for a decent price. I then went there outside of happy hour. I got 5 small pieces of sushi for $14. It was suposed to be a “Cho Special”. Not so special… Happy Hour is OK. They price gouge you after happy hour without increasing the size of the sushi.
